On Monday, March 8, all D112 6th grade ELA students participated in a virtual visit from Lost Boys, Gabriel Dut and Peter Bul. The two men shared their personal stories of the journey from what is now South Sudan to a refugee camp in Ethiopia and ultimately to the United States. This Foundation Grant program was the culmination of the 6th grade unit on refugees, during which students read Refugee by Alan Gratz, which chronicles the experiences of multiple refugee families at different points in history. The books were purchased by the 112 Education Foundation a part of an earlier Foundation Grant. Thank you to Northwood ELA teacher, Miriam Schuman, for her role in organizing this program.
