Fourth and fifth graders at Lincoln School participated in “Passports Ready: a ‘specials’ exploration of music, dance and art from Brazil and West Africa.” This grant, coordinated by music teacher Janet Lubetkin, enabled students to achieve a deep understanding of the roots of “their” current music. “Students are making connections between the elements of West African and Brazilian drumming, and music they listen to.” Fourth grade drummers learned a West African piece from PulseBeat percussion teacher Jason Wolf. PulseBeat dance teacher Tosha Alston, taught fifth graders a ‘samba” dance.
